At a time when you cannot move out of your house, the cravings to do what you cannot in this time are at another level. And as they say "books are friends that never fail", here are four novels that will transport you to the outside world from the comfort of your home.
The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

Published by Brazilian author Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist will definitely transfer you to a distinct place. The simple yet amazing story is about an Andalusian shepherd boy named Santiago who travels from his homeland in Spain to the Egyptian desert in search of a treasure buried near the Pyramids. Along the way he meets a Gypsy woman, a man who calls himself king, and an alchemist, all of whom point Santiago in the direction of his quest. My favourite quote from the novel, the one that always motivates me is: ““If you can concentrate always on the present, you’ll be a happy man… Life will be a party for you, a grand festival, because life is the moment we’re living right now.” No one knows whether the protagonist will be able to find the treasure or not, but what starts out as a journey to find gold and diamonds turns into a discovery of the treasure found within.
2. A Gentleman In Moscow

Now this is the book that a lot of us would be able to relate to in the present time. Set in the 1920 Russia, this 462 pages novel revolves around Count Alexander Rostov, Recipient of the order of Saint Andrew, Member of the Jockey Club and Master of the Hunt has been sentenced to House Arrest for life in The Metropol Hotel, Moscow. The book covers how the Count spends each day of his life in the hotel without any luxuries, which also raises the question ‘ Can a life without luxury be the richest of all?’ Now if you’re a fan of Historic fiction this is the perfect book for you.
3.Into The Wild by Jon Krakauer

Also a blockbuster movie, Into the Wild is about Christopher Johnson McCandless who in 1992 gave up all his savings and most of his possessions, hitchhiked to Alaska and walked alone into the wilderness north of Mt. McKinley. Into the Wild will definitely take you on the hitchhiking journey along with the protagonist right from your home.
4.The Caliph's House by Tahir Shah

Remembering his own vacations as a child in Morocco, Tahir Shah in 2004 decides to move his family from England in hopes of breaking out from their dull life in London as well as for getting hischildren a more carefree childhood. While dealing with corruption, the local bureaucracy, thieves, gangsters, jinns causing havoc and the hassle that seems to come with even the most simple interactions, It’s beautifully woven story and for sure will keep you glued till the end of it. It’s a must read.
